Sarina: hire and purchase prices
Locally the demand is mostly farm machinery and implement storage, chemical sheds, and cane season overflow. Hired for a season or bought to keep, it arrives as one quoted price with the truck included, matched to the access you describe.
Guide prices only. The figure you are quoted depends on the delivery address and the stock on hand when you ring — (07) 4944 2211 gets you the actual number.
Cane, coal ports and coastal blocks
Sarina sits in the middle of some of the region's most productive cane country, with the Plane Creek mill on the edge of town and farms running out in every direction. Growers here use containers for the things a machinery shed doesn't do well: lockable storage for spare parts and tools, chemical storage away from the house, and a dry place for gear that can't sit out in the wet between seasons.
Just north of town, the Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay coal terminals bring a steady flow of port and contractor work. Contractors working the terminals and the rail lines that feed them often want a secure store closer to the job than Mackay, and a container on a rural lot outside Sarina is a common answer.
Then there's the coast. Sarina Beach, Armstrong Beach, Grasstree and Campwin Beach have a mix of permanent homes and weekenders, and people there want somewhere salt-resistant and lockable for boats, fishing gear, outboards and garden equipment. A tin shed on the coast doesn't last long. A properly painted steel container, looked after, lasts a lot longer.
Farm tracks, headlands and the sandy coast
Most farm deliveries around Sarina are uncomplicated in the dry: level ground, wide farm gates and plenty of room to turn. The things that trip a truck up are soft headlands after rain, cane that's grown right up to the track during the season, and culverts or causeways that were never built for a loaded truck. If the only way in is along a headland, tell us, because we'd rather plan the route than find out halfway along.
The beach suburbs are different. Sandy lots, narrow streets and low trees near the foreshore can all complicate a tilt-tray. Sand that looks firm can let the rear of the truck dig in once the load starts to tip. Firm, level ground at the drop spot matters more than the width of the street, and a few photos will usually tell us which truck to send.
During crush, farm traffic, haul-outs and cane trains all compete for the same roads and crossings. It doesn't stop deliveries, but it's one reason we confirm the day at order rather than promising one up front.
Choosing a size for a cane farm
For machinery and implement storage, a 40ft gives the most floor for the money, and farms usually have the room for a sidelifter. A 20ft is the usual pick for a parts store or a lockup near the house. Many growers end up with two 20fts roofed across the gap, which gives a covered workspace in the middle.
Spray chemicals are a special case. Storing them in a general-purpose box beside the fuel drums is common but not ideal. A dangerous goods container with bunding and ventilation keeps spills contained and keeps you on the right side of a chemical audit. There's more detail in container storage on a cane farm.
Hire for the season or buy for good
Farm storage is usually permanent, so most Sarina growers buy. A used cargo-worthy unit that's sited well and painted when it needs it will serve for many years, and it can be moved if the farm layout changes. As-is units are cheaper, but they're sold as seen and not sold watertight, so they suit gear that doesn't mind a bit of moisture.
Hire suits the jobs with an end date: a contractor stationed near the terminals for a shutdown, a family moving house on the coast, or a builder with materials to protect for the length of a build. Hire units go out cargo-worthy, wind and watertight. The sales and hire page has more on the trade-off.
How a Sarina delivery is arranged
Sarina is close enough to Mackay that deliveries run on the regular truck roster. The price is quoted with the container, based on the property and the access, so you know the delivered figure before you order. The day is confirmed at order, and in the wet it also depends on whether the ground at your drop spot can take a loaded truck.
If you're not sure about the access, send photos of the gate, the track and the spot you have in mind. For farm deliveries, a pin dropped on a map saves a lot of back and forth about which gate on which road.
Asked about Sarina
Can a container be delivered along a cane headland?
Often, yes, in dry conditions. Soft headlands after rain are the usual problem. Tell us the route in and send photos, and we'll confirm whether a tilt-tray or sidelifter can get there safely.
What size container suits cane farm machinery?
A 40ft gives the most floor for machinery and implements if the property has room for a sidelifter. Two 20fts roofed across the gap is another popular farm set-up.
Should farm chemicals go in a standard container?
Ideally not. A dangerous goods container with bunding and ventilation is the better choice for spray chemicals and fuels, and it helps with chemical storage compliance.
Do you deliver to Sarina Beach and Armstrong Beach?
Yes. Sandy lots and narrow streets near the foreshore need a quick access check, so send photos of the street and drop spot and we'll pick the right truck.
