Shipping containers delivered to Airlie Beach
Whitsundays deliveries need a bit of planning around access and holiday traffic, but we run them regularly.

Airlie Beach: hire and purchase prices
Locally the demand is mostly marine and charter operator storage, tourism equipment, and building sites on tight blocks. Hired for a season or bought to keep, it arrives as one quoted price with the truck included, matched to the access you describe.
Guide prices only. The figure you are quoted depends on the delivery address and the stock on hand when you ring — (07) 4944 2211 gets you the actual number.
Charter boats, tourism and hillside builds
Airlie Beach earns its living from the water, and plenty of our Airlie containers end up storing marine gear. Charter and dive operators, sailing schools and tour businesses around the marinas need secure, dry storage for sails, dive equipment, spare outboards, safety gear and the endless consumables a boat goes through. Space near the water is scarce and expensive, so a container on a lot a little way back from the foreshore is often the cheapest workable answer.
The other big driver is building. Much of the housing around Airlie, Cannonvale and Jubilee Pocket sits on steep hillside blocks, and builders need a secure store on site for tools and materials for the length of a job. Accommodation and hospitality businesses use containers for linen, furniture rotation and maintenance stock.
Holiday-home owners are the third group. A lockable container on the block keeps kayaks, fishing gear, outdoor furniture and tools safe between visits, and it's more robust than a garden shed in a place that gets cyclones.
Steep blocks, tight streets and visitor traffic
Access around Airlie needs more planning than almost anywhere else we deliver. Many residential streets climb steeply off Shute Harbour Road, with switchback driveways, retaining walls and not much flat ground. A tilt-tray needs a reasonably level spot and a straight run to set a container down. On a steep block the answer is often a crane truck, which can lift the container over a wall or down a slope to a flat pad.
Overhead clearance is the other common issue. Mature trees, power lines along the road and balconies that project over the driveway all need checking. Along the main strip and around the marinas, parking, pedestrians and tour-bus traffic mean the truck needs somewhere safe to set up without blocking the road.
The practical fix is always the same: photos. One from the street, one of the driveway, one of the spot. A crane lift costs more than a tilt-tray drop, so we'd rather know early which one your block needs than have a truck arrive and have to turn around.
Salt air, humidity and a steel box
Salt air works on steel. A container near the water in the Whitsundays needs more attention than one inland: keep the paint intact, treat any chips or scratches before they rust, and don't let leaf litter pile up on the roof and hold moisture. Door seals and hinges benefit from a bit of maintenance every so often.
Inside, the big enemy is condensation. Warm, humid air trapped in a closed box condenses on the steel when the temperature drops overnight and drips onto whatever is stored. Vents help, and so does keeping sails, cushions and anything fabric off the floor and away from the walls. Our guide to keeping a container cool covers ventilation and insulation for the tropics.
Picking a size for a tight Whitsundays lot
On a steep or narrow block, a 10ft is often the only size that can be placed sensibly, and it's light enough for a smaller crane. A 20ft is the standard choice where there's a flat pad and a clear run, and it holds a surprising amount of marine gear if it's racked properly. 40fts suit commercial yards and marine businesses with room for a sidelifter.
If you're thinking about a studio, a cabin or accommodation, read the honest version on container homes and cabins first. Wind rating, council approval and heat all matter more here than people expect.
Hire, buy, and how an Airlie delivery works
Builders on a fixed-length job usually hire. Hire units are cargo-worthy, wind and watertight, and they go back when the house is finished. Marine and tourism businesses with ongoing storage needs usually buy, because a container held for years costs less than hiring it for years. The sales and hire page sets out the comparison.
Airlie deliveries run from Mackay as part of our regular northern runs. The price is quoted with the container, including any crane work the block needs, and the day is confirmed at order. It depends on stock and truck availability, and in peak holiday periods on getting a truck set up safely on busy roads.
Asked about Airlie Beach
Can you deliver a container to a steep block in Airlie Beach?
Often, yes, but steep blocks usually need a crane truck rather than a tilt-tray so the container can be lifted over walls or down a slope onto a flat pad. Send photos and we'll confirm the truck and include it in the quote.
How do I stop a container rusting near the water?
Keep the paint intact, treat chips and scratches early, clear leaf litter off the roof and keep the container on supports so air can move underneath. Salt air speeds up rust on bare steel.
Will my gear stay dry in a container in the Whitsundays?
A cargo-worthy container keeps rain out, but humid air can condense inside. Vents, keeping fabric off the floor and walls, and good airflow make the biggest difference.
Can I use a container as a cabin in Airlie Beach?
Possibly, but habitable use needs council and building approval and must meet local wind ratings. Talk to Whitsunday Regional Council early and start with a high cube.
